The Citi Golf wasn’t the only VW sold for an obscenely long amount of time in South Africa, you could also get the OG Caddy (or Rabbit Pickup in NA) until around 2007. It was basically the same as a Citi Golf, with the same interior and front end treatment, just in bakkie form.
The more you know.

Rabbit Pickups had deceptively long beds.

God I love Caddy’s, good to know we can import newer examples in the future

That’s because their body shell was derived from the four door Jetta.
Does mean that the cab is ludicrously cramped, though, where a two door Jetta would’ve had more room.

Huh. I thought it was just a stretched Golf/Rabbit with a pickup bed.
I mean, it kind of essentially is because the Jetta is a stretched Golf/Rabbit. But still.

Can confirm that the cab is seriously small. I don’t know how I used one as a DD for years, or took a 1000 mile road trip with my mother in that thing. Then again, I fold myself into a Mazda5 on a daily basis, so what do I know about roomy vehicles...
